Smiley Tots Towel and giveaway!

I thought I would start with the picture of Jayne from Smiley Tots above as it's such a better photo than mine below that my husband took with an iPhone and 3 other kids trying to get in for a look see of our new addition!
This is THE BEST towel for bathing a little one! They always want to be in your arms and warm after getting out of the bath and it's often hard to juggle a towel and a wet, slippery baby.

The towel is worn like an apron so you can put it on before starting the whole bath routine. Wash bub then pull them out straight onto your chest and wrap the towel around them.

I love the funky teddy bear design on mine!

Priced at $35 each including postage they make a great present for a new baby. You can also find Smiley Tots at a few Perth markets where these sell out super quick! Keep up with which market they are attending on their Facebook page.

Thanks to Smiley Tots we have 2 of these towels for some lucky people to try with their bubs!!! Just head to the Bub & Moo facebook page and under the post sharing this blog post let me know if you want a boy towel or a girls one (both pictured below) and that you have liked the Smiley Tots facebook page. SIMPLE! Entries close 11.59pm WST on the 31st October 2012, lucky people chosen randomly and will be announced on the blog.

The gorgeous girl and boy towels!

If you can't see it says Lisa A for girls & Belinda D for boys! Congrats ladies

Mullins Designs

When she found out we had a boy the lovely Jesika from Mullins Designs sent these around to me. 2 small but very thoughtful gifts as the Mum of a boy after 3 girls.

First above the Mitten Keepers. We all know how hard it is to keep mittens on little hands and how sharp their tiny nails are (they grow so quickly!!!) They are a soft, stretchy elastic that fits over any mittens and keeps them on. Priced at just $4 a pair for plain and $5 for embellished. We have gotten good use out of them!

Next can you guess what this is pictured below?
This is the 'Fountain Friend'. Can you guess it's use now? I had heard all the stories about little boys and their fountains from friends and S is no different after getting the midwife about 10 minutes after his birth! Just keep it on your change table and pop it over the crown jewels while cleaning bottoms or getting a new nappy to stop any fountain action. Would be a great added extra to a baby shower gift for someone having a boy, sure to get lots of stories and laughs!

Jesika is fantastic at answering any questions on her Facebook page and has some gorgeous items for both boys and girls so head over and have a look!

Thanks so much Jesika x

Pink Poppy

This parcel couldn't have arrived at a better time. We had just gotten home with our newest addition and trying to settle in and keep the girls entertained was a mission. They thought it was like Christmas opening up the parcel and all the pretty pink items inside we had to play straight away!

First we played about 30 games of memory (above right) until everyone had won at least a handful of times. Both my 5 & 3 year old loved it, my 2 year old didn't quite get it yet & just wanted all the cards!
Then we worked out the light on one of the pens! (above) So cute & we had fun shining it on paper, hands and walls. Think this one would be a home pen as I can imagine my 5 year old would get easily distracted with it at school, the other one with the love heart would be much better for the school bag.
Lastly we had to try the tattoos (above). Complete with glitter they were easy to apply & easy to remove. J wanted hers on her hand & M wanted hers in the same spot as Daddy (my future??)

We used to have a little store at our local shops that stocked Pink Poppy and it was always great to grab things to add into a present but they recently shut so I will have to find another nearby!

The prices are fantastic, the memory game is a great one to keep in the present cupboard for those last minute party presents at $15.34 and I LOVE this tea set which is only $11.55!!

You can shop for Pink Poppy online or click here to find a store near you!

You can find Pink Poppy in many places online

It's a flower, it's a playmat, it's a...bathtub?

A new product to the market the Blooming Bath is something I have never seen before! Super cute idea and multifunctional as both a playmat and a bath.

I was in Maylands this morning and whenever I'm in the area I have to drop in and see Jo at Sosi. My sister and I were checking these out and wondering what they were so Jo explained to us and wanted to see how they really work so sent me home with one for our new addition Sam.

As you can see above he looked like a Spring flower laying on the mat in the sunshine. It is soft and thick so he was nice and comfy laying there enjoying the last bit of sunshine today.
The main purpose of it though is as a bath, one that you use in your sink! Most of us were probably bathed in the laundry trough when we were first born but this makes it much more comfortable and easier for us to wash them. As you can see Sam above enjoyed it. He is 10 days old today and even though so small he felt well supported in the bath. We did it in the kitchen sink this time but I think next time I'll try the laundry tub as it's next to the change table. I thought it would be a good way to show how it looks not in a display home kitchen.
After you have finished you can hang in on the line to dry or put it in the dryer for 10 minutes.

It has already won awards in the USA, comes in great colours (love the pink too), super soft materials (lovely minky fabric) and does a great job of making bath time comfortable for your little one.

It would be perfect for those that don't have a bath in their house and as a funky baby shower gift.

$59.95RRP drop in at Sosi in Maylands and see Jo or email her on jo@clothesatsosi.com.au for more details.

Go get a life...insurance (but read this first!)

Being 38 weeks pregnant it seems the pregnancy hormones are getting to me. If my husband is 5 minutes late home I assume that there has been a car accident and the pregnancy dreams of the house getting sucked up Wizard of Oz style and us living in a tent in the yard are just some of the joyful side effects this pregnancy is bringing to me.

I've always been one of those people that always tick the insurance box. Home check, car check, health check, travel check, postage for that pair of shoes my daughter NEEDED check but life insurance is one that I never really thought about until having kids.

Now that we are a one income, mortgage, 3 19/20 children family if something should happen to my husband or I things would be hard, really hard! How do you juggle looking after 4 children under 6, earn a living and think about the future for all of you?

Having one income and trying to trim the fat off the budget it's often tempting to let insurance go or get less comprehensive insurance but people are making more claims than ever. Add it to your 'must have' list rather than the list of luxuries. Just think of the peace of mind rather than the added stress of the 'what if's' if something were to happen.

Why do Australian's need the Life Awareness Movement?
  • nearly 50% of people have difficulty understanding insurance terms & gathering unbiased information
  • 1/3 of super fund members are unaware their fund offers insurance cover
  • Many Australian's don't understand how much insurance cover they actually need.
    • Actual cover vs. cover required (based on IFF/AIST formulae)
      • Average death cover: $189,000 vs. Average cover required $431,000
      • Average level of TPD: $162,000 vs. Average cover required $437,000
      • Average level of IP: $2,700 a month vs. Average level required $3,750
(TPD - Total Permanent Disability, IP - Income Protection)

This is something all of us with young families need to think about and sit down and talk to our spouses about. Get out your super and insurance papers and read through the fine print to see what and how much you are covered for.

Visit the life insurance calculator from Life Insurance Finder and then compare life insurance plans to find the right option for you.

I am participating in the LIFE Awareness campaign. I received a VISA gift card for this post courtesy of Life Insurance Finder via Digital Parents Collective. I am also in the running to win an iPad3. As always, all opinions are purely my own.

My Bubbler Deal savings!

OK most that know me know I'm a bit of a deal voucher addict! OK I'm a LOT!!! Just printed out all the ones I currently have to use and there are 9. A few are from the big guys (Our Deal, Groupon etc) but the one I love to support is Bubbler Deals. Started by a Perth Mum and putting 5% of purchases back into the community and never going bananas selling thousands of vouchers to small businesses that can't handle it.
I thought I might share some of my deals. My first was (pictured top) a deal for 2 nights at Footprints Preston Beach. For $149 it was the perfect price for our budget. Regular price was $270 so I saved over $100 on my first deal. If that one came up again I'd get 2!! Others I have gotten include high tea at The Pearfect Pantry (above) which I got vouchers for 4 people 52% off, below is Yummy Mummy day spa 67% off for a friend and I, dinner out for the whole family at a kid friendly restaurant 48% off (2 pictures below) and the bottom picture some amazing macarons for half price! In between these I've also done playcentres, tennis lessons and toy stores plus I still have 2 to use from Aussie Farmers Direct and Fired ceramic cafe!
So I guess I should break out the calculator and see how much I've saved....
Where is the calculator on the iPhone.... oh utilities obviously!
ok so I have spent $450!!! Jeepers! Not so bad over 9 months though. But the RRP of everything I got was $1,326! Savings of about 64%! It has helped that I have shared with my friends, who have grabbed vouchers, so I earnt some credit, my Aussie Farmers Direct box was nothing as I used credit!

I love that I can spoil us (or just me!) with a few luxuries through the year at a great price and has made some fantastic and fun memories for us.

Bubbler has recently launched Australia wide with a deal every Monday and another on Thursday for Perth people. They recently won the Aussie Mumpreneur award for best customer service! Head over and check out what's on offer this week!

Qubies!

Qubies have recently had a change! No they haven't changed their awesome design they have just added pink to their range! Isn't it cute?
I've had my Qubies for a few years now and they have had a workout but still look brand new!
My girls have all gotten past the baby food stage but I will be there again in about 7 months time and with even less time on my hands to cook up something for the new bub each meal so I'm sure they will be getting well used.
I do still get good use out of them. We have a HUGE lemon tree in the backyard and rather than end up throwing half of them out I have been squeezing the juice into the Qubies and freezing it. Was starting to get low but the lemons are just ripening up again now.

This pregnancy though I have LOVED chomping on some ice and orange juice so I have combined my 2 loves and poured my orange juice into the Qubies and now have bags of these yummy iceblocks to chew on whenever the cravings hit (much healthier than my other craving hot chips and gravy!!!)
You can get some other ideas from their Facebook page on what to use them for. I need to remember to use them for leftover sauces like pesto and egg whites which I always seem to forget about in the fridge, also tomato paste would be great as I freeze our homemade bases so would have one cube of tomato paste for one base! Hmmmm I could really get carried away and have snap lock bags all over my freezer!

One of the big pluses for me is the fact they are BPA, PVC and Phthalate free.

Available directly from the Qubies website, these online stores or Toys R Us stores nationally.

Thanks to Qubies one lucky Bub & Moo reader will win one of the new pink Qubies!!!

Bambini Pronto

When Bambini Pronto recently announced 40% off storewide their site went crazy! So overloaded it crashed so I left it until the next morning and even though a lot was sold out in that time I still got some mega bargains.

We are expecting baby #4 who will be getting many, MANY hand me downs so I thought I would spruce up the cot with the cute Alphabet Zoo Complete Sheet (pictured above, $39.95). All the sheet sets are very unisex in design steering away from the all blue or all pink that you see on so many. It looks great from the side and from the top and made of 100% cotton. You can also get the matching sleeping bag $64.95 and receiving blanket $39.95 or the whole package for $115 saving you $30.
With each child we have also gotten the older ones to buy them a present and they also get a present from the baby so at 40% off I couldn't resist the Sophie the Giraffe teether ($19.95). I'm sure everyone knows the Sophie range by now but if not they are quality made, non-toxic, Phthalate free and 100% natural rubber from the sap of a Hevea tree teething toys. I imagine it will be hard to stop the other kids from taking her to play with themselves!

Postage was amazingly quick even during such a huge sale and what I really love is that shipping is FREE if you spend only over $50 and it weighs under 5kgs!

Bambini Pronto have such a huge range of everything Mum and Child that each visit I find something I had missed last time and range in prices from a Safari Pencil at $1.95 up to a Pod Cot for $1,899, you are sure to find something for a baby shower, to finish off the nursery or spoil yourself!

Keep an eye on Bambini Prontos page where they currently have an AMAZING giveaway going with $5000 of prizes (and once you get 5 people to enter off your link you get a 30% off code!!!), specials and for every new liker they will be donating 20c to red nose day!

Hootkid clothing

I'm almost scared to share this store, they only stock one of each size in each design so once it's gone it's gone!

Hootkid was started by Caroline who has been in the fashion industry for 15 years buying fashion for some of Australia's biggest retail stores before becoming a Mum and starting Hootkid in October of last year.

The clothes on Hootkid are funky, fun and the kids will enjoy wearing all the outfits if they are anything like mine.
I was immediately drawn to the 'I'm All Set' Dress (pictured above and top). At $59.95 you are getting 3 different combinations. You can wear it as pictured on the site or like the picture above just the rainbow dress or just the wing heart tee with pants or a skirt. Every day without fail M has been asking to wear it so hopefully it holds up through the many, many washes until she grows out of it and it's C's turn to wear it all the time. I just love how bright it is for a Winter outfit, I love colour and even more so when it's dreary outside. Team it up with some bright tights for really cold days. It is also available with a pink or navy wing tee.

Pictured below is J in the Step it up Scarf (available in 9 colours) $13.95. I love them all! J wanted the caterpillar (green and black) and M wanted the bee (yellow and black) but we went with the orange and grey. It's a great length and not to heavy for kids so the first one that hasn't gotten pulled off within 5 minutes of put on. C loved wearing it to Gymbaroo with her pink pettiskirt, was looking very Paris catwalk!
I have a wishlist a mile long which has only gotten longer with their sale that has just started with 30-50% off a huge range of stock.

For the boys my favourite is the Keep Guessin' tee ($29.95) and if you have one that likes to race around check out The Flash tee ($24.95). For the girls (besides what I got) check out the It's My Party Dress ($34.95) and the Peppa's Leggings ($10.97 on sale!).

Those of you lucky enough to be near Hootkid in Victoria can have them come out to your house! Get together a group of friends and see each piece in person so you can choose what you want PLUS VIP deals and incentives for hosts, email hello@hootkid.com for more information

Make sure you check out their sale and support this fantastic new business

Thai potato and salmon rosti

Finally got around to using that delicious looking Gourmet Garden Thai seasoning which I turned in to delicious rosti. The kids wanted more but we all ate the lot! Luckily all the ingredients were what I usually have in the pantry anyway so I'm sure we will have it again.
Ingredients:
4 medium potatoes
a generous pinch of salt
1 tblsp fish sauce
1 tblsp plain flour
2 tblsp Gourmet Garden Thai seasoning
415g can of pink salmon
Vegetable oil for shallow frying

Grate the potatoes coarsely into a large bowl, stir in the salt and squeeze out excess moisture. Stir in sauce, seasoning, flour and salmon. Shape mixture into around 12 patties, place on a tray, cover and put in the fridge for around half an hour.

Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan, cook rosti in batches until browned and heated through.

Serve with some rice or a sweet chilli sauce.

4 cheese lasagne

I think everyone must have a lasagne recipe they use and I have one too but decided with adding the Gourmet Garden herbs that I would try a different cheese sauce too as my kids can't get enough of cheese! This one wouldn't be so great for those with lactose problems though!! Also, I have no idea how all the cookbooks make their sliced lasagne look so neat and perfect, mine looks like I hacked at it. Need that tea towel at the end to clean around the dish before I present it to you all.
 4 cheese lasagne
1 finely diced onion
2 tsp Gourmet Garden Garlic
500g lean beef mince
2 cans of crushed tomatoes
1/2 cup tomato paste
1/2 tsp white sugar
3 tblsp Gourmet Garden Basil
Any other vegetables you like to smuggle in to pasta (I used carrot this time and usually do zucchini too)
500g tub of ricotta cheese
1 cup of grated parmesan cheese
1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese
pinch of nutmeg
4 eggs
200g of lasagne sheets
1 cup pizza cheese
Heat a splash of olive oil in a large saucepan, cook the onion and garlic until the onion softens. Add mince, cook, stirring until mince changes colour. Add your extra vegetables (carrot, zucchini etc). Add the undrained tomatoes, paste and sugar. Cook, stirring, until sauce thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the basil.

Preheat the oven to 180oc

(my daughter did this step)
Beat ricotta, parmesan, mozzarella and nutmeg in a medium bowl with a spoon or electric mixer until well combined. Add eggs, one at a time, beating until just combined between additions.

Place a third of the lasagne sheets in a shallow 2.5L baking dish. Top with half the meat sauce and half the cheese mixture. Top with another third of the lasagne sheets, remaining meat sauce, remaining lasagne sheets then the last of the cheese mixture. Top with pizza cheese.

Bake, uncovered, for around 40-45 minutes or until cheese browns lightly. Stand for a few minutes before serving.

This made enough for all 5 of us with more than half leftover. Even better the next day reheated and freezes well.

Moroccan Lamb party pies and Fondant potatoes

Yum, yum, yum! I have to stop taking the photos with my iPhone as they just don't do the food justice! This one was a big hit with the kids and my daughter insisted on taking pies for school lunch today as well. I have a party pie maker and my usual pies are just leftover bolognaise so it was nice to spice things up a bit and also to change the usual mashed potatoes for something a little more fancy.

Moroccan Lamb Party pies (makes about 24 in a normal pie tin but I got 31 out of it)
Oil
1 small brown onion finely chopped
1 tsp Gourmet Garden Garlic
400g lamb mince
2 tsp ground cumin
1 tin of undrained crushed tomatoes
1/4 cup of roasted pinenuts
2 tblsp finely chopped raisins
1 tblsp of Gourmet Garden coriander
3 sheets of shortcrust pastry
1 egg beaten lightly
3 sheets of puff pastry

Heat a little oil in a frying pan, cook onion and garlic, stirring, until onion softens. Add lamb and cook stirring until the lamb changes colour. Add cumin, cook, stirring until fragrant. Add tomatoes and bring to the boil. Reduce heat, simmer uncovered for about 5 minutes or until it thickens slightly. Stir in the nuts, raisins and coriander and then let it cool.

If you are doing it in the oven preheat the oven to 200oc. Grease 2 12 hole deep flat based patty pans.

This bit is the same for the party pie machine or oven cooking. Cut 24 7cm rounds from the shortcrust pastry and press them into the pan holes. Brush edges with a little egg. Spoon around 2 tblsp of lamb mixture into each case.

Cut 24 6cm rounds of puff pastry and top the pies with the puff pastry lids. Press firmly around the edges to seal. Brush a little egg over the lids.

In the oven bake for about 20 minutes or until browned lightly. In the machine it takes about 10 minutes.
Fondant Potatoes
About 5 large potatoes
750ml chicken stock
50-75g of butter
2 tblsp Gourmet Garden Garlic
1 tblsp Gourmet Garden Thyme
Salt and Pepper

Peel the potatoes and cut into chunks around 2-3cm thick. Place in a pan with the stock and bring to the boil (it's fine to use water instead of stock or just a stock cube). Turn down the heat and simmer for around 10-12 minutes until tender but firm enough that they don't break up. Drain well.

Head the butter in a pan until it starts to foam. Add the potatoes with the garlic and thyme. Cook for 4-5 minutes then turn them over and cook for a further 3 or 4 minutes until the potatoes are a golden colour. Take the potatoes out and season with salt and pepper and serve.

Both very simple to do and perfect for a cold night! Our leftover party pies have been frozen to reheat for a birthday party this weekend.

Enjoy!

Prawns and warm mushroom salad

After my BLATsil lunch we went for a lighter dinner and with a bit of prep ahead of time when it was time to cook it was very quick.
Prawns with garlic, chilli and lemongrass (above)

Ingredients
12 large prawns, peeled and deveined (tails left on)
1 tblsp Gourmet Garden garlic
1 tsp Gourmet Garden Hot Chilli
1 tblsp Gourmet Garden lemon grass
1 tsp minced ginger
4-6 tblsp olive oil

My daughter did all of the prep work for me so a great one to get the kids involved in

In a bowl mix the garlic, chilli, lemongrass and ginger. Gradually add in the olive oil until you have a paste. Season with salt and pepper. Place the prawns in the bowl and make sure they are all well covered in the marinade. Place in the fridge to marinate for a few hours.

Cook the prawns on a hot bbq or pan for 4-6 minutes until they turn pink.

Warm mushroom salad (below)

Ingredients
320g field mushrooms
1 tsp Gourmet Garden Thyme
1 tsp Gourmet Garden garlic
50ml olive oil
salt and pepper
1 handful of rocket
half an avocado

Red wine vinegarette
30ml red wine vinegar
1 tsp seeded mustard
1 tblsp dijon mustard
salt and pepper
60ml Olive oil

Toss the mushrooms in the thyme, garlic and olive oil. Season to taste then leave in the fridge to marinate for at least an hour (can be done the night before).

Make the vinegarette by whisking together the vinegar and mustards and season with salt and pepper. Keep whisking as you slowly add in the olive oil until combined.

Cook the mushrooms on a hot BBQ or pan (can be done at the same time as the prawns in the previous recipe) around 2 minutes on each side.

Arrange the mushrooms, rocket and sliced avocado on a plate and drizzle with vinegarette and serve. (the vinegarette is quite strong so only use a little on the kids serve)

Great recipes for a bbq with friends and family and really easy ones for the kids to be involved in making.

BLATsil

My first recipe! I made this yummy lunch. So, so good and easy!

Ingredients:
1 sliced tomato
1 avocado
1 slice of bacon
1 handful of baby spinach (or lettuce)
mayonaise
Gourmet Garden Basil
Crusty bread roll/baguette

Fry or grill your bacon until crispy.
Slice open your roll and on one place mayonaise and a small dollop of basil, spread evenly.
On the other side of the roll spread some avocado.
Layer your spinach/lettuce, tomato and bacon in the sandwich and enjoy!
(serves 1)

I found the basil gave it a really refreshing taste and the girls ate all of theirs up too!
